Graffiti Party Winners!

Hello hello everyone!

Thank you so much for joining us for the Graffiti party event and for your patience in finding out the winners!

Barbara and I had a really tough decision to make and it came down to a lot of different factors in the end because there were just so many amazing entries. Each and everyone of them had something unique that we liked and so it was just really tough. In fact you should see all the numbers sprawled out on my piece of paper in front of me as we were trying to decide!

OK I will stop rambling and get on with it. :)

1st place goes to entry number 16.

16. Andrea Tully

We really loved the idea of having a black wall and the step by step photos on her site were great to see too.

Congratulations Andrea. You have won a Custom Graffiti text of your chosen word & a $25 gift voucher at Make it Crafty
2nd Place goes to entry number 46.

46. Rose C

We loved the concept of the screen card and thought it was perfect for this theme.

Congratulations Rose. You have won the collections from our stores.  Graffiti Collection from LMMS & the Urban Characters from MiC
We also have 3 Random Winners who each have a choice of one of the new digi stamps from LMMS & MIC

Congratulations to:

Thank you all for being part of the fun. Please contact us at both via our stores Little Miss Muffet Stamps & Make it Crafty so that we can organise your prizes.

Again, we're sorry we weren't able to give prizes to everyone who joined the challenge but we do hope you had fun with the freebies and will continue to have fun making more cards with this great theme for teenagers!

Big Squeezes everyone.

Graffiti Defined

From this release I've looked up the definitions of many graffiti words and I thought I would share a few here - seems appropriate, don't you think?!  So here are a few terms you can add to your vocabulary which will especially come in handy for the next Graffiti Party project you'll show off!  LOL

This is directly from Wikipedia and you can soak up more at these links:

graffiti (singular: graffito) - is writing or drawings that have been scribbled, scratched, or sprayed illicitly on a wall or other surface in a public place.

black book - a graffiti artist's sketchbook.

tag (scribble) - a stylized signature, normally done in one color. The simplest and most prevalent type of graffiti, a tag is often done in a color that contrasts sharply with its background. Tag can also be used as a verb meaning "to sign".

throw-up - a throw-up or "throwie" sits between a tag and a bomb in terms of complexity and time investment. It generally consists of a one color outline and one layer of fill-color. Easy-to-paint bubble shapes often form the letters.

one-liner - a tag, throwie, or bomb written in one constant motion.

straight letter - also referred to as "straights", "blockbusters" and sometimes "simples" are a direct, blocky, more readable and simpler style of graffiti.

wildstyle - graffiti with text so stylized as to be difficult to read, often with interlocking, three-dimensional type.

hollows - also referred to as "outlines" and "shells". A hollow is a piece of graffiti that contains no fill.

backjump - a quickly executed throw up or panel piece.

bomb - to bomb or hit is to paint many surfaces in an area.

heaven spots (or shorter as heavens) - pieces that are painted in hard-to-reach places such as rooftops and freeway signs, thus making them hard to remove.

paint-eater - an unprimed surface such as raw wood or concrete that eats up standard spray paint.

crew - a crew, krew, or cru is a group of associated writers or graffiti artists that often work together.

writer - a practitioner of writing, a graffiti artist.

head - similar to a king or queen, a "head" is a writer who has much skill and a high reputation among other writers in his area.

knight - a respected writer whose skills are still progressing.

rook - trusted member of a crew.

angels  - famous or respected writer who have passed away.

up - writers become up when their work becomes widespread and well-known.

soak up - to consider other pieces for inspiration.

So with that under our belts, I have a little extra inspiration for you to soak up.  :D

Coloring Graffiti Tutorial by Barbara

I wanted to share the project I made with these new Graffiti Party images!  You can use or adapt this technique to all of the Graffiti Sentiments and using bold bright colors is a key to making them POP!

On this project I've used the following images.

Make it Crafty Stamps:

Little Miss Muffet Stamps:

STEP1: Color the rest of the image... for this project,
I went with a black and white so we could focus on the graffiti colors.
Copic colors used: T1, T2, T3, T4, T6, T8

STEP2: We're going to start coloring the letters blending two colors together. In this case it's red to yellow. At first I'm working at both top and bottom of the letter just so I can "see" what I'm working with... as I progress I'll color from the red down to the yellow.
Colors: YR31 and R18

STEP3: I'm still figuring out the colors so I added a darker red and
then pulled down the orange color as well.
Colors: R29 and YR07

STEP4: Work those colors and blend from the darkest red down to
the lightest yellow (which has turned into orange! LOL).
Color added: YR12

STEP5: Do the same blending technique with the splash element behind the letters.
Colors: B14, BG53, BG32, BG11

STEP6: Then repeat, coloring the outline portion around the letters.
Colors: YG17, YG13 and YG21

STEP7: Add shadows on the letters and splash elements.
Don't blend these in as you want them with a harsh edge.
Colors: E17 on the letters and BG93 on the splash.

STEP8: Now start making it messy! I've added paint drips and splatters to the lower part of the graffiti.
Colors: R08, YR18, R29 and T9 for the reds; BG49, B06 and BG99 for the blues.

STEP9: You can skip the paint runs and splatters if you want, but this step is important and brings it to life (so to speak). Grab your white gel pen or paint and add highlights and even large circles over the wall.

STEP10: Place your colored image on a project and show if off!
Make mistakes and learn from them. Even I have a few on this one. LOL
